As NerdWallet’s design team grew, its design resources and process documentation became dispersed and inconsistently organized, causing redundant work and headaches when tracking down artifacts and onboarding new designers. Our challenge was to dig into the primary causes of resource decentralization through user research, and propose a design solution that would consolidate resource access without disrupting efficiencies in the current workflow. 

The approach

We hypothesized that by compiling design documentation and resources into one accessible and central hub with durable information architecture, the design team and their stakeholders would be able to reference and contribute to common resources throughout their project flow more efficiently. We identified potential risks and constraints in the problem space including balancing customizing the solution with technical feasibility and effort, as well as avoiding contributing to the problem by adding yet another platform.
